Post Discussion: Social Marketing and Health Communication

This week, your goal is to discuss the power of communication in persuading behavior change. You will do this by developing a social marketing campaign strategy for a specific health problem and population. Follow the process outlined below;

1. Choose a public health problem of interest to you.

2. Describe and define the status of this health problem using epidemiological data and biostatistics.

3. Identify the population most affected by this health problem by using demographic data.

4. Visit the CDCwebpageon health communication to learn what the DCD suggests in terms of tailoring your communications to a specific audience. Also Review Table 9-1in chapter 9 of the Health Behavior Theorytextbook for guidance on attributes of effective health communication.

5. Propose a social marketing/ health communication strategy for this audience. Please address each of the Four P’s of Social Marketingdiscussed in chapter 9 of the Health Behavior Theorytextbook for guidance and structure. Make sure that you are also reflecting the attributes from Table 9-1in your strategy.

Application and Analysis: Innovation

Review the CDC webpage, AHRQ webpage, and the AHRQ article. These materials will provide information about current public health innovations. You will choose a public health innovation as your focus for this assignment. Using the information found at the aforementioned webpages, electronic journals, and other available materials in the University library, research the historical context of your innovation and explain its overall impact in public health today. Please address the following aspects in your evaluation:

1. Explain how your innovation was produced. Describe the conditions, policies, epidemiological and biomedical data leading to the implementation of this innovation.

2. Determine and explain how the diffusion of innovations theory has supported this innovation in promotion, structure and popularity. (Note: Please review chapter 10 section on the Characteristics of Innovations and reference these factors in your response.)

3. Discuss the status of this innovation today. Think about current policies, epidemiological data, biostatistics and other data that explain its impact on public health.
